BRATTLEBORO Wilfred P. "Harvey" LaFountain, 86, of Hillcrest Terrace died Saturday morning, November 16, 2013, at Thompson House Nursing Home.Mr. LaFountain was born in Mooers Forks, N.Y., the son of William and Marguerite (Ebare) LaFountain. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro. He went on to proudly serve his country in the Army during World War II attaining the rank of sergeant. He served with the military police with tours in both Italy and Germany. Mr. LaFountain held various jobs in the area until establishing his own building contracting business. He designed and built many custom homes, vacation homes, and commercial buildings throughout Windham County. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks, Brattleboro Lodge #1499, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Brattleboro Aerie #2445, the American Legion, Brattleboro Post #5 and the V.F.W. Carl M. Dessaint Post #1034. Of his leisure time activities, he loved golf and was a member of the Brattleboro Country Club. He is credited and was very proud of his 4 holes in one. On February 19, 1951 in Northfield, Mass. he was married to Grace Miller who survives. Besides his wife of 62 years he leaves two daughters, Nancy Graves and husband Bruce of Keene, N.H. and Jane Bellville and husband Bruce of Hinsdale, N.H.; and a son, Richard LaFountain of Bedford, N.H. Additionally he is survived by six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by many brothers and sisters. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside committal services with full military honors will be conducted Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in Saint Michael's Parish Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the ATAMANIUK FUNERAL HOME on Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Memorial contributions in Mr. LaFountain's name may be made to the Thompson House, 80 Maple St., Brattleboro, Vt. 05301 or to Rescue Inc.
