1935-2013 BRATTLEBORO Barbara D. Barnish, 78, of Belmont Ave. died early Monday morning, December 2, 2013, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Barnish was born at home in Williamsville on June 29, 1935, the daughter of Joseph and Gertrude (Hickethier) Druke. She attended a two room schoolhouse in Williamsville later graduating from Mount Saint Joseph High School in Rutland, Class of 1952. She went on to attend Trinity College in Burlington. For 15 years she had been employed as an office manager for the Vermont Health Dept., WIC Program. Previously she had worked as a sales associate at the former Cindy's Store on Main Street and prior had been employed for the Head Start Program at Centre Congregational Church. Mrs. Barnish was a member of the Baha'i Faith Community of Brattleboro. She volunteed at the Brattleboro Senior Center, and participated in the Guilford Friends of Music and the Brattleboro Stamp Club. She was known for her spirit of friendship and was an avid blood donor. Of her leisure time activities she enjoyed walks in the woods, gardening, music and time shared with her family. On December 27, 1985, in Brattleboro she was married to Robert L. Barnish who predeceased her in September 2004. She was also predeceased by her first husband, James L. Guthrie. Survivors include her four children, sons, Kevin Guthrie of Winchester, Ky. and Kenneth Guthrie of Friendswood, Texas; two daughters, Debra Britton of Winchester, Ky. and Lorraine Allen of Haverhill, Mass.; four brothers, Bernard Druke of Brattleboro, Edward Druke of Newfane. Charles Druke of Weare, N.H. and John Druke of Syracuse, N.Y.; three sisters, Sr. Mathilda Druke, R.S.M. of Albany, N.Y., Theresa Stevens of Portland, Conn. and Mary Dauphinais of Brattleboro. She also leaves five grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Druke and Arthur Druke and three sisters, Gertrude Druke, Sr. Mary Michael, O.C.D. and Frances Druke. A Baha'i service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at the ATAMANIUK FUNERAL HOME.
