Ruth (Karp) Siegel was born in Philadelphia in 1932. She raised three children largely as a single parent, earned a doctorate in English from Columbia University and taught at Queens College for 30 years, many of these in the happy company of Jacques Sartisky, her great love until his death in 1995. She moved to Keene from New York City in 2005, attending on the birth of her youngest grandson, Julian Siegel. She quickly became a fixture in the community, known around the Monadnock Region for her generosity, her presence and participation in cultural events, her healing practice, her love of good food and good company. A memorial service will take place at Congregation Ahavas Achim, 84 Hastings Ave. Keene, at 2:30 on Sunday, December 8th. Ruth Siegel would have been 81 on that day. All are invited to remember and celebrate the life of this extraordinary woman. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Home Healthcare, Hospice and Community Services, 312 Marlboro Street, Keene NH, 03431
