1977 - 2014 BRATTLEBORO Patrick A. "Pat" Butler, 36, of Edward Heights, a lifelong resident of town, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, in Brattleboro, at the home of one of his friends. Patrick was born on Oct. 17, 1977, the son of Richard and Rebecca Moyer Butler. He was raised in Brattleboro, attending Academy and Green Street Schools and was a graduate of Brattleboro Union High School, class of 1998. For the past 16 years he had been employed as a clerk at Hannaford's Market on Putney Road where he was loved and respected by his fellow employees, the management, and many customers. He thoroughly enjoyed his work at the grocery store and will be remembered for his spirit of friendship and his smile. Patrick was active for many years with the Vermont Special Olympics Program and was a member of the Special Olympics basketball team, and the Windham Wizards, for the past eight seasons. This past year, the Wizards won the gold medal during the state championships. With his family, Patrick was a communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church. Of his other leisure time, activities he enjoyed were hunting, fishing, playing basketball, video games, and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his parents of Brattleboro; one brother, Matthew Butler and his fiance, Sadie Stone, of Fitzwilliam, N.H.; his maternal grandmother, Ellen Moyer of Middletown Springs, Vt.; a nephew, Kayden Duchano of Merrimack, N.H., and several aunts and uncles. Additionally he leaves a large host of friends that include, Danny Sprude, Ian Flood, Brooks Engle, Susan Mandel, Chuck Diome, Jack McKiernan, Rob Clements, Katherine Bruenig and Jim LaValley. FUNERAL NOTICE: The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 2, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church with Fr. James Dodson, Pastor, celebrant. Committal Rites and burial will follow in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions in Patrick's name may be made to the Vermont Special Olympics Basketball Program, 16 Gregory Drive, Suite 2, South Burlington, VT 05403.
