SPOFFORD -- Steven A. Brehm, 42, of 16 Church St., died suddenly Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.
The Guest Book is expired.
Seemingly fine after his routine morning run around Spofford Lake, he collapsed in the shower and could not be revived.
He was born in Keene on June 18, 1964, the son of Donald and Janice (Holiday) Brehm and had resided in Brattleboro, Vt., prior to moving to Spofford a year ago.
A loving husband and wonderful father, he leaves behind his wife Ann (Kimball) Brehm and 8-year old son Dieter Brehm of Spofford; and two grown stepdaughters, Emily McGrath of Brattleboro and Jessica McGrath of Burlington, Vt.
A family man first, Mr. Brehm spent much of his free time on the home front, engaged with his wife on extensive, do-it-yourself home renovations and landscaping projects, playing with his son, and connecting with those closest to him.
In the community, he gave much of himself to good causes. Over a stewardship spanning two decades, Steve led the Brattleboro Outing Club's cross- country skiing program, worked on the BOC board, and served as the organization's president. He was an active member of Lake Spofford Family Recreation Inc. and could be counted on to help, offer his expertise, or contribute to any civic cause.
Mr. Brehm was an avid athlete. He loved playing in the outdoors-running through Pisgah, cycling the back roads, and enjoying the peace and solitude of an early morning row on Spofford Lake.
Most of all, he loved to cross- country ski, a passion he shared with his family and friends. He graduated from Northfield-Mount Herman School and raced for the Keene State College ski team on the Division I Carnival circuit from 1984-1987. In 1985, he was honored as the first recipient of the Chis Greenler Award for his dedication to the team and love of the sport.
Mr. Brehm was employed with the Savings Bank of Walpole as an internet banking officer. He had worked for the bank for more than seven years.
In addition to his wife and son, he is survived by his father, Donald and his wife Jill Brehm of Spofford; his mother, Janice (Holiday) Brehm of Keene; a brother, John Brehm of Westmoreland; a sister, Karen Letourneau of Bend, Ore.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Services for Mr. Brehm will be held Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., from the FLETCHER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 33 Marlboro St., Keene.
Friends are invited. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the start of the services.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in memory of Mr. Brehm to the Brattleboro Outing Club Educational Foundation, earmarked for the Steven Brehm Memorial Fund. Contributions and condolences may be sent to: BOC, P.O. Box 335, Brattleboro, VT 05302.u
