Apolinar "Pola" G. Fernandez of Los Fresnos passed away at her home on Monday, March 25, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Laureles, Texas, on Jan. 8, 1934.

Pola was happily married to Arnoldo S. Fernandez and celebrated 55 years of marriage; never were they without one another.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Margarito and Norberta Gonzalez; her uncle, Pedro Galarza; her brother, Francisco Gonzalez and her beloved son, Saul Armando Fernandez.

She is survived by her loving husband, Arnoldo S. Fernandez; her children, Mike (Victoria), Jaime, Lynn Adrian (John), and Danny (Alejandra). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Saul 'Ozzie', Mike Jr., Abel Jaime Jr., Xenia Liza (Mauricio), Johnny Jr. (Selena), Isaac, Mia, Danny II, Jacob and Nadine; and a great-granddaughter, Alissandra. Pola is also survived by four siblings, Baldemar (Beatriz) Gonzalez, Maria Gonzalez, Rosa (Pablo) Cantu and Ramon Gonzales; a sister-in-law, Christina Gonzalez; her caregivers, Mari, Alicia and Rosie; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was a graduate of Los Fresnos High School and was a bookkeeper/accountant for more than 30 years until her retirement from Port Elevator in Brownsville. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and caring for her children and grand-children. She always thought of others before herself.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all the family and friends who lent their support and love during this time of great loss.

Visitation is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Sunset Funeral Home in Los Fresnos. A rosary and ceremony celebrating her life will take place at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass is scheduled at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church in Los Fresnos. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
