Donaciana G. Blackwelder, 83, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend entered into the glory of her eternal life on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Valley Baptist Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Mary, as she was affectionately known to all, was born in Progreso, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, but came to live in Brownsville when she was sixteen years old.
Mary's passion was cooking and her two favorite dishes to prepare were Carne Guisada and Chile Rellenos. Mary took great pleasure in hearing people rave about her dishes. Mary also enjoyed her plants, her chickens, and her dogs, Lola and Levi.
Mary was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known her.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gilbert Blackwelder; her parents, one sister and one brother.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are children: Barbara (Ben) Carpenter, Alfredo Garcia, Stephen (Reneé) Blackwelder, Ruth (Jesse Martinez) Blackwelder, and Alan (Rosa Lopez) Blackwelder; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one brother, Jose Carlos García Martinez; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. and continue through 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2013, with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday evening in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
A Liturgical Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1200 Lincoln St., in Brownsville, Texas.
