Fernando "Nando" Villanueva, 72, entered into eternal life on July 22, 2013, at Sunshine Haven surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1940, in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to Alberto Villanueva and Juana Gamez de Villanueva.

From a very early age, he had to work hard to support his mother and younger brother.

He was taken under the wings of "El Maestro Morales," where he learned his life skill of an upholsterer. For the next 45 years, he owned "Tapicieria Ideal" in Matamoros, Mexico, and Classic Upholstery in Brownsville, Texas.

"Nando" had a big heart and there was never a person he wouldn't help.

He was a loving husband to his wife of 46 years, Manuela De Leon-Villanueva, and father to his three children, who were his pride and joy, Alberto Villanueva (Carmen), Markus Villanueva (Alma) and Laura Villanueva Sayas (Ramiro).

"Poofy," as he was known, enjoyed and loved his grandchildren: Bianca, Victor, Brianna, Alejandro and Markus Anthony.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Esteban Ricardo Almaguer.

He is survived by his wife, children, son-in-law, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Gabriela Villanueva de Candelaria (Nemecio), and nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., today, Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Brownsville with a recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m.

A Chapel Service will take place at 10 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, July 25, 2013, with interment to follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Honored to be serving as pallbearers will be Victor Villanueva, Markus Anthony Villanueva, Alejandro Zayas, and Federico Vasquez.
