Gregorio P. Rodriguez


Gregorio P. Rodriguez, 99, of Brownsville, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas.

Mr. Rodriguez was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a commercial fisherman in his early years, when sailboats were used to fish in the Laguna Madre; as a result he became an avid fisherman. He was also a welder by trade.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alicia P. Rodriguez; a daughter, Hilda P. Gallardo; and a son, Gregorio P. Rodriguez Jr.

Gregorio is survived by his children, Olga R. Hayes, Celia R. Villarreal (Juan), Manuel P. Rodriguez, and Felix P. Rodriguez (Ernestina); a brother, Juan P. Rodriguez; two sisters, Maria Luisa Benavidez and Rosa P. Rodriguez; 21 grandchildren, multiple great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m. today, Friday, April 12, 2013, at Garza Memorial Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13 at St Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers will be Felix S. Rodriguez Jr., Mark A. Rodriguez, Roy Hayes Jr., Johnny Villarreal Jr., Felix Rodriguez, Manuel P. Rodriguez, Edward G. Gallardo and Giovanni Gallardo.

Honorary pallbearers will be Juan V. Villarreal, Damian Buitureida, Michael Cormier and Felix Rodriguez III.

Military honors will be conducted at graveside by the VFW Post 2035, under the direction of Luis Lucio.
