Jovita V. Acevedo, 70, entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Friday, March 22, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at Solara Hospital in Brownsville.

Mrs. Acevedo is preceded in death by her parents, Miguel Vazquez and Juanita Melendez; one brother, Jesus Vazquez; and two sisters, Carmen Vazquez and Guadalupe Castro.

Left to cherish her loving memory is her husband, Juan D. Acevedo; daughters, Gema Vazquez of San Antonio, Texas, and Esmeralda Vazquez of Brownsville; stepdaughter, Raquel (Juan) Banda of Brownsville; stepsons, Juan (Leonor) Acevedo of North Reading, Mass., and Rolando (Terry) Acevedo of Brownsville; two brothers, Antonio Vazquez and Jose Vazquez; and two sisters, Teresa Vazquez and Concepcion Banda. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Victor Nava Jr., Guadalupe Nava, Luis Donaldo Treviño, Kassandra Banda, Gabriel Banda, Brandon Acevedo, Sabrina Acevedo, John Acevedo, Kassandra Marie Acevedo, and Samantha Lenae Acevedo; numerous nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Visitations will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Guerra Funeral Home "Chapel of the Arch Angels" from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary recited at 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 25, 2013, at St. Eugene De Mazenod Catholic Church, 5409 Austin Road, at 12 p.m. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery.

The family would like to give special thanks to all the staff, nurses, and doctors from Valley Baptist Medical Center and Solara Hospital for their care, compassion, and kindness toward her and her family.
