Raymond John Zaragoza, 50, tragically passed away trying to save his grandson on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 at his residence in Brownsville, Texas. He was born and raised in Fairfield, Iowa.

He was an avid fisherman, and fan of the Dallas Cowboys. For many years he was a champion of the tug-of-war event during the Sombrero Festival. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson. He will be missed.

Mr. Zaragoza was preceded in death by his mother, Esperanza Zaragoza; a sister, Lourdes Flores; and a grandson, Leeon Hendrix Ezequiel.

He is survived by his wife, Pennie M. Ezequiel Zaragoza; a son, Hanrick Ezequiel; his father, Raymond Zaragoza; three sisters, Mary Ames (husband Ken), Liz Breon (husband Danny), and Estella G. Zaragoza; grandmother, Maria Zaragoza; and numerous nephews nieces and uncles.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. with a holy rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, a chapel service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at Garza Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow to Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Danny Breon, Mitchell Breon, Rudy Garza, David Martinez, Juan Dorado, Tony Ezequiel, and Michael Ezequiel and Ken Ames.
