Mrs. Esmeralda Lerma Leal, 80, our beloved wife, sister-in-law, aunt and friend, entered into the glory of her eternal life after a brief battle against cancer on Sunday, November 4, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.|
Esmeralda, a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville, was a very giving and generous person. She loved to travel, especially to Louisiana where she would visit the local casinos; and invariably she befriended everyone traveling with them either by plane or bus. Esmeralda never met a stranger.
A devout Catholic, Esmeralda was a longtime parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She also served as a volunteer with Casa Oscar Romero. Esmeralda was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by those fortunate to have known her.
Esmeralda was preceded in death by her parents, Emilia and Jose Lerma Jr.; a sister, Socorro L. Ramirez; two brothers, Juan Jose and Efrain Lerma; her mother and father-in-law, Matilde G. and Ysidro Leal; a sister-in-law, Lucky Leal; and a brother-in-law, Luis Lucio.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her is her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, Ramon G. Leal; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Carmen Lerma, Maria Lerma, Consuelo L. Lucio, Manuel G. Leal, Arminda (Merced) Burnias and Fermin (Chita) Leal; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Visitation and a rosary service were held Monday at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at noon today, Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at San Pedro Catholic Church, 7602 Old Military Road. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Honored to be serving as Esmeralda's pallbearers are Dr. John Lerma M.D., Chris and Larry Torres, Sonny Villarreal, Merced Burnias Jr., and Manuel Lucio. John and Rose Marie Leal will serve as honorary pallbearers.
