MRS. LORENE D. VOLTAGGIO Obituary

Mrs. Lorene D. Voltaggio, 101, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, entered into the glory of her eternal life on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Sunshine Haven Hospice Facility in Olmito, Texas, after a brief illness.

Lorene, who was born in Arkansas, had been a resident of Brownsville since 1950 when she and her husband Frank moved here from New Jersey. She was a devoted wife and mother who found the time to be active in her community. Lorene was a founding member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Bishop Adolph Marx No. 1988, volunteered at Mercy Hospital (now Valley Baptist), was a member of the Altar Society at Sacred Heart Church, President of the Sultanas, member of the Self Culture Club, Kiwanis, Christian Women, and active in the Girl Scouts.

Lorene's greatest source of happiness came from being with her family. Her example of strength, commitment to God and family, and concern for her fellow man will be passed on to future generations. The world is definitely a better place because of Lorene. Lorene was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known her.

Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Voltaggio; a son-in-law, James B. Hollon III; a granddaughter, Virginia "Jenny" Hollon Mathers; one sister and three brothers.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are her two daughters, Wanda Hollon and Dr. Virginia V. (John) Wood PhD.; three grandchildren: James Frank (Amy) Hollon, C. Frank (Becky) Wood, and John Kristopher (Carolyn) Wood; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Private funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Lorene's name may be made to Sunshine Haven Hospice Facility, P.O. Box 4478, Brownsville, TX 78523.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Darling-Mouser Funeral Home, 945 Palm Blvd., Brownsville Texas, (956)546-7111.
