Pedro "Pete" A. Hernandez, Sr., 85, went to be with the Lord in heaven on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, after a lengthy illness. He was a lifelong resident of Brownsville and a Parishioner at St Joseph Catholic Church.|
Pete honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He retired in 1990 after 42 years of dedicated service with the City of Brownsville/PUB.
His smile endeared him to all whom he met. He lived a full life and enjoyed puzzles and spending time with his family.
Pete is survived by his wife of 58 years, Tomasa (Nena) Hernandez; children, Lupita (Robert) Schneider, Pete Jr. (Olivia), Margarita (Jose) Villarreal, Juan (Cathy), and Raul (Cyndi); grandchildren, Pete (Kim), Eric (Kristen, fiancée), Jennifer (Balmore), John (Katie), Robert (Patty Segura, fiancée), Austin Hernandez, Aleisha Chastain, Matt Sweat, Gina Hudson, and Ernest (Carla) Herrera; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several cousins, nephews and nieces.
A special thank you to Odyssey Hospice, especially Nurse Judy, Nurse Sue and Nurse Assistant Albert for their loving care and support.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista.
Funeral services for Pete will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He will be laid to rest at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 43 Veterans Honor Guard.
