Prentice Earl Franklin, 98, of Brownsville, Texas, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.|
He was born in Lafayette, Tenn., on Nov. 29, 1914.
Mr. Franklin served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression and later joined the U.S. Army. While stationed with the 124th Calvary at Fort Brown, he met the love of his life, Rosa. He was soon deployed to China, Burma, and India during WWII.
After the war, he worked for John H. and Earl Hunter for over 33 years, where he was affectionately called "Red."
He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and a minister of hospitality for many years. He loved people, nature and working in the yard.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Rosa C. Franklin; infant son, Prentice Earl Franklin Jr.; parents, Clarence Edward and Minnie Bessie Franklin; infant sister, Loraine Franklin; and sisters, Clara Marie Distel and Mary Louise Rich.
He is survived by his loving son, Clifford Karl (Dominga) Franklin of Arlington, Texas; grandson, Clifford Karl Franklin Jr.; great-grandson, Taylor Thomas Sladek; adopted great-granddaughters, Ariana, Sofia, Chloe and Samantha Rodriguez; and sisters, Virginia Lucille Bonner and Era Madine Doergeloh.
Special thanks to niece Mary (Henry) Martinez; nephew, David (Fina) Cardona; niece, Lydia Mae Perez; niece, Bertha Perez; nephew, Joe Albert (Kathy) Cardona; niece, Jo Ann (Milton) Jones; and many other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
A special thanks to Margarita (Moises) for her loving care; the good folks at Med-Team and Safe Haven hospices; and Sister Margarita and Rosie Sierra of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, with a Rosary at 7 p.m.
A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
