Hortencia Castro Gonzales was born on July 2, 1916 in Brownsville, TX.
In the early 1930s, Hortencia graduated from Brownsville High School, and attended business school and worked for several medical doctors, including Dr. Rentfro, Dr. George, Dr. Merrill, Dr. Griffey, and Dr. Simmons.
She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. She was a devoted Catholic – attending Our Lady of Guadalupe Church prior to her illness.
Mrs. Gonzales is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Maria G. Castro; loving husband, David Z. Gonzales; son, David Gonzalez Jr.; her brothers, Jesus Castro and Ramiro Castro; and her sisters, Carmen C. Vasquez, and Juanita C. Valadez.
Hortencia is survived by her daughter, Edna G. Herrera; son, Jose Armando Gonzalez; her grandchildren, Leif Emerick Herrera, Chelsea R. Cortez, Priscilla L. Herrera, Corina Gonzales, Jose Gonzales, and Armando Gonzales; and numerous great grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014 with a Rosary to be conducted at 7 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista.
Chapel Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista, followed by committal service at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Jose Armando Gonzales, Leif Emerick Herrera, Jaime Cortez, Edgar Gonzalez, Guillermo Carmona, Armando Gonzales, and Gabino Carreon.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Antonio Gonzales and Alfonso Gonzales.
