Ren years later I hope that everyone who has felt the loss of "Big Boy", only has a smile and warm heart when recalling the time they spent together. He always seemed so friendly and kind. One of my fond memories as one of the younger cousins, I could never understand why the short one was "Big Boy" and the taller brother, "Shorty".

"Big Boy's" obituary is a fitting tribute to him. It is heartwarming to know that he wanted to share the gift and peace of fishing with others. Our grandmother, Jimmie Herring, would fish at any and every opportunity as would both James's Uncles Johnnie and Willie. It was the Herring thing to do! My father, his Uncle Willie, said when he met people away from Lumberton and they learned where he was from and his last name, they would ask whether he were related to "Fishing Joe", James's dad. Apparently the family was known for their angling ability which for which James inherited the patience and skill! I pray the family knows the serenity in which he must have basked while on and by the water. The last time I saw James, he shared stories of his childhood and made us all laugh. His smile was infectious. --Diann Herring Worrell, one of his many cousins.

I didn't know Mr.Herring but he sound like a wonderful person who loved children. The phrase "just take a kid fishing" says a lot. How we long for God's Kingdom to rule over the earth for only then will death be no more. Then grandchildren will play with their grandparents and harmless animals forever ! (Isaiah 11:6-9)
