Albert C. Gore Sr., 84, of Tabor City, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at home surrounded by his family.
Born on Sept. 12, 1928, in Columbus County, he was a son of the late Daniel C. and Ruby Harrelson Gore.
Mr. Gore carried on a family tradition as a third-generation U.S. Postal Service mail carrier for many years.
He served in the U.S. Navy
during the Korean Conflict
and later in the U.S. Coast Guard. He received an honorable medical discharge from the Coast Guard and was also a farmer in Columbus County for many years.
Mr. Gore is survived by two sons, Albert C. Gore Jr. (Denise) and Trevor Gore; stepson, Maurice Joe Hawes (Rita); brother, Bobby Gore; sister, Veneway Blake; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, Emma L. Gore.
The family received friends on Friday, Jan. 4, at the home. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Olyphic Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
