Mrs. Hazel Smith Musselwhite, 79, of Ocean Isle Beach, formerly of Lumberton, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014. She was born in Robeson County, Jan. 6, 1935. She was a beloved mother and sister to her family as well as many friends who she met through life's journey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Thomas Musselwhite; her father, Kelly Smith; her mother, Mary Owens Smith Thompson; and her stepfather, Ulysses Thompson. She was also preceded in death by her four brothers, Edward Smith, Howard Smith, Johnson Smith and Jimmy Smith.
Mrs. Musselwhite is survived by her daughter, Joann and husband, Hoyt W. Booth, of Holden Beach; her sister, Betty Smith Ford of Virginia Beach, Va.; her brother, Bobby Smith and his wife, Kathleen, of Lumberton; her brother-in-law, Wayne Musselwhite of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and her sisters-in-law, Jayne Fountaine of Charlotte, Bonnie Smith and Belinda Smith, both of Lumberton, Gloria Smith of New York and Rose Smith of Greenville, S.C.
In addition, she is survived by 11 nephews, six nieces and numerous extended family members and friends she loved dearly.
A time of visitation was held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 E. Fifth St. in Lumberton and other times at 5105 Live Oak Lane, Lumberton.
A funeral service was at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, at Floyd Memorial Chapel in Lumberton with the Rev. Leslie Sessoms officiating. Burial followed at Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton.
