Mary Catherine "Mammie" Long, 82, of Winnabow, went home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014.
Mammie was born to the late Charles and Caroline Hughes Nov. 21, 1931, in Ash. She married her love, Don Laverne Long Sr. in 1946. Mammie was a founding and lifetime member of Peace Memorial Baptist Church in Winnabow. She was known by all her family for her fried chicken, pork chops and cornbread. Mammie never knew a stranger and would welcome all who came to her front porch. She had a contagious smile and her hugs were never ending. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Don Laverne Long Sr.; son, Ronnie Long Sr.; and grandchildren, Brittany Brendle, Colby Scearce and Ronnie Long Jr.
We all look forward and will cherish the day when we hear our Mammie say once again, "Come here and give Mammie some sugar!"
Mammie was a devoted mother who raised six children, Ronnie Long, Marylin Lewis (Junior), Janet Murray (Roy), Cathy Scearce (Frank), Donnie Long Jr. (Debbie) and Richard Long (Dee).
She was a devoted and loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren, Michael Long (Stephanie), Ronnie Long Jr., Valerie Stanley (Steve), Denise Lewis (Becky), Jeremy Lewis (Hope), Heather Robertson (Chris), Kevin Long (Lacie), Savanna Taylor (Stephen), Colby Scearce, Brittany Brendle and Tyler Long.
