Salvatore "Sam" Panettiori, 91, of Sunset Beach, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at White Oak Manor, Tryon.
He was born in New York City on Jan. 29, 1921. He was the son of Donato and Giacomina Panettieri.
He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Panettiori.
Sam was a graduate of the N.Y. School of Printing.
In 1943, he was inducted into the U.S. Army as a fire director observer. He served in the campaigns of Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and ground combat. He was discharged in February 1945.
He was a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. Sam also was a member of VFW
Post 7288 and PBOA 2679, both in Calabash.
He is survived by one daughter, Lynn Errickson (Clifford) of Sunset Beach; two granddaughters, Kim Kantrow (Stephen) of New Orleans, and Tracy Hobgood (John) of Ocean Isle Beach; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at a later date.
