Vivian LaRue Pfau, 65, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at her home in Wilmington. She is now with her Heavenly Father and with her loving husband, Charles "Bill" W. Pfau, whose death preceded hers, in 2008. Vivian was born Oct. 10, 1947, the daughter of the late Merle L. Ashbaugh and Aldora Black Ashbaugh.
Vivian graduated from Hempfield Area High School, in Greensburg, Pa., in 1965. In 1970, Vivian married the love of her life Bill; they resided in Delmont, Pa., a number of years before moving to Calabash. They were married for 38 years until his passing five years ago.
Vivian had a strong desire to help all who were in need. She had a passion for the Lions Club and held numerous positions within it throughout the years. She was in charge of Operation Christmas Child for her local church in Shallotte, always looking for just the right items to include in the shoeboxes to make the children feel special. She was also involved with AdoptaPlatoon program where she could send soldiers items from home to boost morale.
After the death of her husband, Vivian moved to Wilmington to be closer to her daughter Beth and her family. In Wilmington, Vivian was an active member of Pine Valley United Methodist Church.
Vivian is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Carl) Stynchula of Wilmington, and their two sons, Brian and John, and her husband's children, William (Lynda) Pfau, Don (Linda) Pfau, Barry (Cari) Pfau, Cheryl (Dave) Smitley; and a host of grandchildren, other relatives, and close friends.
There will be a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Pine Valley United Methodist Church in Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the Lions Club International, Operation Christmas Child, or AdoptaPlatoon.
In keeping with Vivian's wishes, those attending the memorial service are encouraged to wear a splash of color to celebrate Vivian's spiritual journey.
