Col. William Joseph "Bill" Driscoll, 76, of Sunset Beach, died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Col. Driscoll was born July 8, 1937, in Stoneham, Mass., a son of the late Charles and Helen Sullivan Driscoll. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Butch Driscoll; and brother, David Driscoll.
He retired in 1986 as a highly decorated colonel, recipient of the Legion of Merit, and was a Vietnam veteran with the U.S. Army. Following retirement from the Army, he was employed with the Raytheon Co. as a program manager.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Florence Driscoll; two daughters, Eileen Rubens and husband, Randy, of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and Sheilah Swallow and husband, David, of Methuen, Mass.; brother, Charles Driscoll and wife, Carol, of Middleton, Mass.; sister, Mary Ellen Gannon and husband, John, of Falls Church, Va.; four granddaughters, Erin, Maggie, Faith, and Katie.
A funeral Mass was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, at St. Brendan the Navigator Roman Catholic Church. Inurnment followed in the church columbarium.
