Mildred DeMarco, 100, of Calabash, died June 28, 2013.

Born in New York City, N.Y., on Nov. 1, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Russo Concetta Cifarelli.
Mrs. DeMarco moved to Calabash in 1996. She was actively involved in the March of Dimes for 47 years, the
, Literacy Council of Brunswick County, Lion's Club, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Ladies Guild of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She was also a tutor at North Myrtle Beach Middle School and a volunteer at Autumn Care Nursing Center and Shallotte Assisted Living.
She was past president of the Calabash Planning and Zoning Board. She was a member of the Planning and Zoning Board of Directors for 32 years and the Board of Trustees for 10 years and ran for mayor in 1994 in Farmingdale, N.Y. Mrs. DeMarco was a graduate of New York University.
Surviving are three sons, Dr. Thomas J. DeMarco, Cleveland, Gerald F. DeMarco, Miami, Ray L. DeMarco, Portsmouth, N.H.; two sisters, Theresa McMahon, Calabash, Dorothy Hoffmann, Ocean Isle Beach; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A prayer service and visitation were set for Tuesday, July 2, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel.
