William D. Carleton, 79, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Brightwater of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Born in 1934 in Detroit, he was the son of the late John Defoe and Violet Brooks Carleton. He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Joanne Mary Powers Carleton.
He was a graduate of the University of Michigan and was employed with Union Carbide Corp. for more than 20 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen Pocius (Mark) of Westport, Conn., Andrea Gillett (Greg) of Dunwoody, Ga., Cheryl Gibson (Andrew) of Upper St. Clair, Pa.; brothers, John Carleton (Jan), Allan Carleton (Judith), both of Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; sister, Nancy Ellen Donnelly (Terry) of Troy, Mich. and seven grandchildren, Robert and Michelle Pocius, Cameron, Adam and Callie Gillett, Carleton and Christian Gibson.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 26, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.
