Alice True Schmaler passed away at Lower Cape Fear Hospice on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013. She was born Sept. 24, 1932, in West Orange, N.J., the daughter of Charles and Gertrude Flynn.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward W. Schmaler; a son, Wayne C. Schmaler; sister, Gertrude Miller; and brother, Charles Flynn.
She has a son, Edward G. Schmaler, and wife Barbara of Shallotte and a son, Donald Schmaler of Shallotte. She has five grandchildren: Amy Phelps and Glen of Shallotte, Jennifer Crow of Greenville, Eddie Schmaler of Palm Coast, Fla., Travis Schmaler of Cassayuna, N.Y., and Tracy Schmaler of Washington, D.C.; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews of New Jersey.
She had a very special friend, Mira Erhardt of Ocean Isle, who was her traveling companion.
She attended schools in West Orange, N.J., and spent her summers with her good friends at the Jersey Shore in Belmar.
In 1972 she moved from New Jersey to Manchester, Vt. She and her husband owned and operated Manchester View Motel. They had many family gatherings and reunions in Manchester.
In 1986 she moved to Shallotte where she was a member of Brierwood Golf Course.
