Mr. August Kuigre, 89, of Supply, died Saturday, March 16, 2013, at his home.

Mr. Kuigre was born in Estonia on March 20, 1923, and was the son of the late Aleksander and Mari Salu Kuigre. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jannia Varnam Kuigre.
In search of freedom from the German Army that held his family in a concentration camp, he and his friends first escaped to Sweden and bought a boat at the age of 25 that came ashore in Southport. He soon made his home in Varnamtown, where he raised his family.
He was a skilled carpenter and excellent boat builder and commercial fisherman. He was a friend to anyone who knew him. He was a member of Gospel Center Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Royals Kuigre, of the home; children, Alex Kuigre and wife, Sheila; Wanda Smith and husband, James, and Linda Hewett, all of Varnamtown; Benjamin Owens and wife, Kathy, of Supply; three sisters, Leida Siim, Alma Toom and Naima Tuurmaa, all of Estonia; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Gospel Center Baptist Church with the Rev. Foyd Bennett officiating. Burial was set to follow in the Georgetown-Holden Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mark Galloway, Danny Galloway, Sammy Varnam, Daniel Hewett, Sampie Varnum and Norman Ingram.
The family was set to receive friends Tuesday evening at Gospel Center Baptist Church and other times at the home.
