Bernardo ""Benny"" Colella Sr. (1940 - 2013)

Bernardo "Benny" Colella Sr., 73, of Ocean Isle Beach, died peacefully Monday Dec. 30, 2013, surrounded by his family at the Conway Medical Center in South Carolina, following an illness. He was the beloved husband of Mary A. "Bunny" (Hosford) Colella.
Born March 5, 1940, in Dedham, Mass., a son of the late Vincent and Mary F. (Scarcella) Colella, he was a former resident of Dedham and was a longtime Franklin, Mass., resident before moving to North Carolina several years ago.
Benny was raised and educated in Dedham, and was a self-employed contractor in the Franklin area for many years before retiring.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who treasured time spent with his family, and enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots, doing yard work and tending to his horses, and his retirement years spent in North Carolina.
He was a member of the St. Anthony's Society in Franklin, and was a volunteer at the Ocean Isle Beach Sea Turtle Protection Organization.
In addition to his wife Bunny, he is survived by his children, Bernardo "Benny" Colella Jr. and his wife, Monika, of Hopedale, Mass., Lori A. Sincavage and her husband, William, of Bellingham, Mass., and Judith A. Ring and her husband, Brian, of North Carolina; two brothers, Vincent J. Colella of Hopedale and John C. "Jack" Colella of Franklin; four sisters, Livia Westhaver and her husband, Chip, of Cape Coral, Fla., Marie Joyce and her husband, Bob, of Medford, Mass., Louise Herrick of Wrentham, Mass., and Grace Ann Colella of Franklin.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Rocco, Antonia and Ariana Colella, Mackenzie and Cassidy Ring, and Kelsea and Ashley Monterotti.
He is the brother of the late Adam Colella and Frances Boudreau.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, Jan. 7, 2014, at the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery will be held at a later date. Visitation was Monday evening, Jan. 6.
