Mr. Harry T. Wilkes, 67, of Ocean Isle Beach, died Wednesday Jan. 22, 2014, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Wilkes was born in Garland, Nov. 23, 1946, and was the son of David Andrew Wilkes and Peggy Cain Wilkes White. Mr. Wilkes was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in Vietnam. He was a member of Ocean View Baptist Church, the Brunswick County Shrine Club and the Thunderbolts, and a Mason. He was a retired contractor.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Wilkes; four children, Sandra Ward of Ocean Isle Beach, Kim Cheers and husband, Barry, of Shallotte, Randy Wilkes and wife, Melissa, of Shallotte, Donna Prevatte and husband, Robert, of Ocean Isle Beach; six grandchildren, Zack, Kayla, Justin, Jordan, Blake and Braydon; a brother, Cecil Wilkes and wife, Susie, of Elizabethtown; a sister, Ann Armstrong of Elizabethtown; nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, Hailey. A very special caregiver, Erika Boynton.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at Calvary Baptist Church in Shallotte with the Rev. Wayne Turnage officiating. Burial followed in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Joulieo Valdez, Jamie Valdez, Dexter Robinson, Von Faison, Robert Jordan, Ronald Edwards.
The family received friends Friday evening, Jan. 24, at White Funeral Service in Shallotte.
