James Millard Smith, 80, of Brick Landing, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, at the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick in Bolivia.

He was born in Oakboro, the son of the late Sam Lee Smith and Margaret Honeycutt Smith.
Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He loved to use his hands, loved the outdoors and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his wife, Lou Hewett of the home; a stepson, Mike Hewett and wife, Nancy, of Shallotte; a stepdaughter, Renee Stocks of Holden Beach; a brother, Wayne Smith of Brick Landing; four sisters, Magaline Riddle of Mint Hill, Jolean Blackwell of Harrisburg, N.C., Kay Rogers of Matthews and Sylane Eudy of Charlotte; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at White Funeral & Cremation Service, 3660 Express Drive, Shallotte, with the Rev. Bob Weathers officiating.
The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
