John F. "Jack" Alexander, Sr., 85, of Sunset Beach, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Alexander was born July 19, 1928, in Monessen, Pa., a son of the late James Clifford and Margaret Hill Alexander. He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard as Master Sergeant. Mr. Alexander retired as an AVP of Sales and Marketing for Conrail. He was employed from 1947-90.
Survivors include his wife, Marian, 62, of the home; a son, John F. "Jack" Alexander II and wife, Suzanne, of Sunset Beach; daughters, Karen Alexander Vance and husband, Michael, of Bel Air, Md., and Carol Alexander Holmberg and husband, Paul, of Shallotte; grandchildren, Kristen Vance, Robert Alexander, Erik Holmberg, Beth Vance Dilworth, Michelle Holmberg, Thomas Alexander; and a great-granddaughter, Hailey Rivers.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at St. Brendan's Catholic Church, Shallotte. Burial will follow in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at the funeral home.
Grandsons of Mr. Alexander are serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to a charity of choice.
