Joseph Peter "Capt'n Pete" Singletary Jr., 83, of Holden Beach passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family Friday, Jan. 5, 2018.
Mr. Singletary was born in Brunswick County on Aug. 7, 1934, and was the son of the late Joseph Peter Singletary Sr. and Zettie Galloway Singletary. He was also preceded in death by son-in-law, Jesse Hayes Jr. Mr. Singletary was a retired commercial fisherman and owned and operated Capt'n Pete's Seafood of Holden Beach. He enjoyed camping and traveling. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Augusta Kirby Singletary; two daughters, Opal Hayes of Supply and Rita Elliott and husband, Travis, of Supply; four grandchildren, Kerrie Hayes, Melina Elliott, Dana Elliott and Kaitlyn Elliott; and sister, Marilyn Swain and husband, Ennis, of Varnamtown.
A celebration service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at Gospel Center Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Foyd Bennett officiating.
