William Calvin Poteat, lovingly known as "Pop," went to be with his heavenly family Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013. He was born in Charlotte, Aug. 17, 1924. William served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; daughter, Jackie; son, Eugene; sister, Martha; brothers, Samuel and Atwel; and special companion, Miss Beasley.
He is survived by granddaughter, Tracey Hoyle (Bo) of Clover, S.C.; grandson, Brandon Ratcliff; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Watts, Hailey Rollins, Elizabeth and Tyler Hoyle; "favorite" son-in-law, John Stephens; and his many special friends, especially at Carbo's in Calabash.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at McEwen Funeral Home, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m.
