William "Bill" James Hotop, 64, of Ocean Isle Beach, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Seacoast Medical Center in Little River, S.C.
Mr. Hotop was born June 9, 1948, in Bremerhaven, Germany, to Florence Babinski Hotop of Fort Madison, Iowa, and the late Carl Hotop Jr.
Mr. Hotop retired from the FBI after 32 years of service. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church.
He graduated from the University of Iowa. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed cheering on the Yankees, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Washington Redskins.
Mr. Hotop was preceded in death by his father, Carl Hotop Jr.; and a brother, David Hotop.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Diana Linda Hotop; and four children, Martha Hess and husband Michael of Lorton, Va., Sarah Tate and husband Travis of Stafford, Va., Scott Hotop of Raleigh, and Debby Hyduke and husband Wes of Farmington, Minn.
He is also survived by his mother; three brothers, Tom Hotop of West Point, Iowa, Kevin Hotop of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Jeff Hotop of Fort Madison, Iowa; one sister, Carol Hotop of Fort Madison, Iowa; two grandchildren, Trey Hess and Caroline Tate; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at St. Brendan Catholic Church.
The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A reception at Brendan Hall followed the service.
