Richard Daniel Durden, 64, of Oak Island, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

He was born in St. Joe, Mich., on Jan. 2, 1950, son of the late Fred Richard and LuluBelle Horton Durden.
Mr. Durden was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and adored his late wife, Carolyn Jernigan Durden, who he married in 2003.
Survivors are son, Jason Durden, Cocoa, Fla.; stepdaughters, Tammy Wyatt, Dover, Tenn., Terri Lee Durden, Moultrie, Ga., Andria Yakoubian, Little Rock, Ark., Carol Lynn Johnson, Shallotte and Jamie Prevatte, Southport; and stepson, Buddy Johnson, Oak Island. Always a devoted grandfather to all the grandchildren, there were 16 in all and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Durden leaves eight siblings to cherish his gentle spirit: Fred, Charles, Edith, Teddy, Bobby, Tina, Mike and Pat.
His family will have a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Southport/Oak Island Food Pantry.
