John Michael "Jack" Harrison, 89, of Shallotte, died peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2013, at Autumn Care of Shallotte.
Born June 23, 1923, to the late Martin Harrison and the late Katherine Mullooly Harrison, he lived much of his life in Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Charlotte, where he worked for Branham Company. Mr. Harrison resided in Shallotte for the past 29 years.
He is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Marie Rourk Harrison; sons, John (Jane) of Lilburn, Ga., and Michael (Gale) of Apex; daughter, Eileen Stammetti (William) of Madison; daughter-in-law, Susan Harrison Gates (Edward) of Matthews; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Eileen McHenry Harrison; son, Thomas Alexander Harrison; and brothers, Martin and Andrew Harrison.
Mr. Harrison served his country during World War II as an infantry scout in the European Theatre, and was honored in the Flight of Honor in 2010. He was an active member of St. Brendan the Navigator Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club and Brierwood Golf Club, where he had many dear friends.
He had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed playing golf and had a deep love for his family and church.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Autumn Care of Shallotte for the care given to "Mr. Jack" in his last year of life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Brendan the Navigator Roman Catholic Church, 5101 Ocean Highway West, Shallotte, NC 28470; Shallotte Presbyterian Church, 5070 Main Street, Shallotte, NC 28470; or the charity of one's choice.
A mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, in Shallotte.
