Clyde Ellis Gentry Sr., 87, of Bolivia, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2013, at Davis Healthcare Center in Wilmington.
He was born on Dec. 25, 1925, in Forsyth County, son of the late Joseph A. and Eva Bumgardner Gentry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Mr. Gentry attended Sunset Harbor Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was affiliated with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for many years until his retirement.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Marie Butner Gentry; a son, Clyde Ellis "Sonny" Gentry Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Wilmington; a sister, Annie O'Neal of Dobson; three grandchildren, Kristen Gainey, Scott Gentry and Michele Gentry; five great-grandchildren, Michael Carter, Jailyn Gainey, Prescott Gentry, Foster Gentry and Rosalyn Gentry.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel by the Revs. Wayne Tuttle and James Whitworth. Interment was in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
