Allen Alfred Peter, 69, of Kersey, CO, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2013, at his home.
Allen was born on October 22, 1944, in Greeley, CO, to Alfred and Esther (Harding) Peters.
He lived on the farm most of his life. As a young man he was a member of the 4H club and FFA. He showed cattle and horses, winning many awards for both. He graduated from Platte Valley High School in 1962. After graduation he rodeoed for several years, riding bulls and bare backs.
On February 11, 1964, he married Juanita Ley at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greeley. In 1964 they welcomed a son, Ronald.
Allen farmed on his dad's farm east of Kersey for nine years, winning the high ten-grower award from the Great Western Sugar Company in 1971.
In 1973 they moved to Greeley and he went to work for McDoy Distribution Co. He worked there for eight years before going to work for Xcel Energy in Brush, CO, at the Pawnee Station as a plant operator, and retired after 24 years.
Allen was a kind, soft-spoken man with a great sense of humor. He would do anything for anyone who was in need. Before becoming disabled he was an avid reader, liked to hunt, fish and go dancing. Or just go on a Sunday drive with his wife. He was a wonderful husband and father.
He always saw the good in people and the beauty in the world around him. He will be missed beyond words.
He is survived by his wife Juanita (Ley); his son Ronald; Ronald's fiancée Rose Woodard; his sister Melanie Trautman; three step-grandchildren, Jim, Doug, and Lisa; four step-great-grandchildren, Emily, Rebecca, Brittany, Cody, and a special friend Rennie.
He is preceded in death by his parents Esther and Alfred Peters.
Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Adamson Chapel. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013, also at Adamson Chapel.
