Kathryn Ann (Bates) Ghilino(1930 - 2014)

Kathryn Ann Ghilino, 83 of Fort Collins, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2014, peacefully in Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer.
Katie was born in Sterling, CO, to Norval and Guidotta Bates on July 16, 1930. Her grandparents, Dent and Katie Davis, came to Colorado in 1896 and opened the first drug store in Brush.
She grew up in Brush where she graduated from Brush High School in 1948. She attended Loretto Heights College in Denver.
Katie married Charles (Red) Ghilino on July 25, 1952, in Brush, Colorado. Through her life she resided in Brush, Fort Morgan, Littleton, and Fort Collins. She worked as a bookkeeper for Bill Anderson CPA in Fort Morgan for 11 years and for Fred B Rothman and Company, worldwide publisher of law books for 20 years.
She was involved in the Elks and the VFW in Littleton. Katie loved horses and rode often while growing up including having her horse at Loretto Heights during college. She received first place in the Cow Girl's race at Cheyenne Frontier Days in 1947.
Katie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend to many. She enjoyed sewing, needle pointing, cooking, dancing, and bowling. She was also a huge Bronco fan. She and Red enjoyed camping and traveling the country in their RV.
Katie is preceded in death by her parents, Norval and Guidotta Bates, as well as her brother Robert Bates. Also by her uncle Robert Davis, whose World War I uniform resides in the Brush, Colorado Museum.
Katie is survived by her husband, Charles (Red) Ghilino: daughter, Rena S. Hansch: granddaughter Kathryn (Kate) Hansch Derry and husband Nathan Derry: granddaughter Elizabeth (Libby) Hansch Emerson and husband Scott Emerson: great-granddaughter Ragen Paige Derry: and great-grandson Charles Freeland Emerson.

The family of Katie invites you to a celebration of her life on Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at The Sunflower Clubhouse, 865 Pleasure Dr., Ft. Collins, CO 80524.
