Verl Owens Obituary
Verl was born on January 2, 1935, in Trenton, Nebraska to Francis and Della (Frick) Owens. He graduated from Brush High School, in Brush, Colorado in 1953.
At this time he worked at the Brush grocery store and later moved to Curtis, Nebraska, to work for the railroad.
This is when he met the love of his life and his forever wife Joanne Spitz. Through this bond, four children were born, Kathy, Susan, Kent and Sheryl.
Verl, Joanne and family lived in Sterling, Colorado from 1963 to 1996. He enjoyed the outdoors through gardening, camping, boating and fishing. He was also an avid Bronco and later Cardinal fan. Verl retired from the Burlington Northern railroad in 1996, after 42 years.
Upon retirement, he and Joanne resided in Bullhead City, Arizona. He stayed busy through his volunteer work at Community Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his four children Kathy and Doug Piel, Merino, Colorado; Susan and Charles Pollart, Holly, Colorado; Kent and Anne Owens, Merino, Colorado; and Sheryl Bornhoft, St. Paul, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren: Christin and Dan Sutter, Danny and Tabitha Piel, Amber and Don Pope, Andrew Piel, Abigail Pollart, Hannah Pollart, Lucas Owens, Sarah and Jake Schubert, Emily Owens, Allison Owens, Michelle and Ryan Ochsner, Preston and Sarah Bornhoft, Shannon and Austin Scroggin; 10 great-grandchildren, plus one due to arrive in June; three brothers, Larry and Janis Owens, Doug and Lana Owens, Don and Roxann Owens and sister, Karen and Ben Mortimore; numerous nieces, nephews and friends and his canine companion Piper.
Verl was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Della (Frick) Owens, sister Neva Townsley and his brother Dale Owens and canine companions Buddy and Lady.
Verl's requests have been honored through cremation and his family has planned for interment at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling, Colorado on June 27, 2015 at 2 p.m.

We were so sad to hear about Verl. Oh my what memories! Bud and I and Julie were going over all the great, fun times we had as your neighbors in Sterling in the 70's.
We plan on coming to Sterling in June to see you all again. with Love, Bud, Marlene and Julie Jones. Loveland, CO

What a shock to hear that Verl had passed away. Those of us who keep in touch were so looking forward to seeing Verl and Joanne at this years "All School Reunion."
I pray that you, Joanne and your entire family will be blessed this upcoming year and that all your memories of Verl will bless you each time you think of him.
My fondest memories of Verl is when he played his guitar and sang. Don't know if he kept playing the guitar but he had a beautiful singing voice.

Verl was an esteemed friend and classmate in Brush High School. I am saddened by his passing. But I also rejoice in celebrating his fruitful and productive life among us. Condolences and and every good wish to one and all loved ones.

Verl will be much missed at the Class Reunion in July. He was truly a special part of that class. We will share our memories of him there. I send you sincere sympathy at your loss.

Some of our greatest memories are standing at the fence listening to Verl tell his greatest stories and his humorist laugh watching the kids play in both our yards and he will be greatly missed Love and God Bless! Sharon and Gale Van Cura ♥
