Robert Squires Obituary

Robert L. Squires Jr., 83, former Brush resident, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014, at his home in Loveland, CO, due to Parkinson's disease.
Bob was born September 9, 1930, in Reinbeck, IA, to Robert L. Squires and Marion Ruth (Meewes) Squires. He was the oldest of four children.
Bob grew up in Cedar Falls, IA, and graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1949. When Bob's father passed away in 1944, Bob went to work in a drug store in Cedar Falls at the age of 13. He also did handyman work to help his family.
He served in the US Army from July 1951 until his honorable discharge in December, 1952. He was stationed in Olm New-ulm, Germany during the Korean conflict. He worked as an Adjutant clerk in the Battalion clerk's office.
Bob married Mary Heisler in 1955 in Vinton, IA. They had two daughters.
Bob received a BA degree from Iowa State Teachers College, now called University of Northern Iowa. He also received an MA degree from the University of Northern Colorado. He started his teaching career in Iowa and then Colorado. He was a Secondary school Principal in Gordon, NE, Estes Park, and Brush, CO. He moved to Brush in 1968 to become Principal of the Brush Middle School. He served on various committees of the Colorado High School Activities Association. 
On June 28, 1969, Bob married VonEsther Peterson of Estes Park in Denver.
Bob retired from the Brush School District in 1982. They continued living in Brush until 2005 when they moved to Loveland, CO.
Bob and VonEsther recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary with family and friends.
Bob was an active member of the American Legion Sagebrush Post 68 in Brush where he served
as the Adjutant for 37 years. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Bunker Hill
Country Club. He also was a member of the Brush Rankin Presbyterian Church, the First United Presbyterian Church of Loveland, and a former member of the Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, VonEsther of Loveland; two daughters, Sheri Kennedy of Whitesboro, TX and Julie Mitchell of Gainesville, TX; one sister, Beverly Stamper of Golden, CO; two brothers, Eugene Squires of Keystone, IA, and Harold Squires of Cedar Falls, IA; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Rankin Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m.
Military honors will be presented at the memorial service by the U.S. Army. Inurnment will be at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver at a later date. 
In remembrance of Robert Squires those that wish may make contributions to a fund in care of Heer Mortuary to purchase a golf waiting bench to be placed at Bunker Hill Country Club in Brush.

I got my share of trips to his office. Wasn't fun but I am sure I deserved everyone of them. Still have to say he was a good man!!! RIP friend!!!
