On Sunday, April 21, 2013, the Lord peacefully took Carl Kenneth (Ken) Rieb, 79, into His loving arms at the East Morgan County in Brush following a long battle with cancer.|
He was born February 6, 1934, in Chicago, IL, to Carl and Anne Rieb.
Ken graduated from Brush High School in Brush in 1952. After graduation, he attended the University of Northern Colorado (Colorado Teacher's College) for two years prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy.
He toured the world on a submarine, the U.S.S. Threadfin. On April 11, 1959, he married Marilyn Gollobith in Sterling. The Rieb family made their home in Brush.
Prior to retirement, Ken worked as a custodian/maintenance worker for the RE-2J School District for over 30 years. Some of Ken's passions included following the Beetdiggers and just about any other sport. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include three children, Ellen Engel, and her husband Doug of Thornton, CO, Chuck Rieb, and his wife Cathy of Thornton, and Crystal Winter, and her husband Brad of Parker, CO and eight grandchildren, Samantha, Katie, Tony and Allyson Engel, Abbie and Zoe Rieb, and Kayla and Mitchell Winter.
Ken is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Rieb (who passed away March 3, 2013), his father, Carl Rieb, mother, Anne Miller and brother, Ron Rieb.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
A private inurnment will be held in May at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. A vigil and rosary service will be held Thursday, April 25 at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church to celebrate Ken's life. A reception will be held following the rosary service..
In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the St. Mary's Catholic Church or to the Ken Rieb Memorial Scholarship Fund, to be used for a Brush High School student, both c/o the Heer Mortuary, 222 Cameron Street in Brush, CO 80723.
The Heer Mortuary & Crematory in Brush is entrusted with the funeral and cremation arrangements.
