Bacon Westbury, Evelyn (Owens) - Spartanburg  
Evelyn Owens Bacon Westbury, 88, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, March 20, 2015, at White Oak Estates. Born Dec. 30, 1926, in Pembroke, she was the daughter of the late John Gordon Owens and Willie Mae Wester Owens Morgan. Mrs. Westbury was a retired registered nurse, having graduated from the Warren A. Candler School of Nursing in Savannah, and a member of Inman United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Caggiano (Chris) of Spartanburg; son, Jack Bacon of Atlanta; grandchildren, Christopher, Maryanna, Nicholas and Lily Caggiano; sister, Faye Waters (Rex) of Pembroke; sister-in-law, Jewel Owens of Pembroke; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Reginald Owens of Charleston, SC, and Ralph Owens of Pembroke; and sister, Shirley Thompson of Jacksonville. Graveside services will be at a later date in Northside Cemetery, Pembroke. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund, 205 Sams St., Gaffney, SC 29340. Cross, Hartwell L. - Richmond Hill  
Hartwell L. Cross, 80, of Richmond Hill, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015, at Bryan County Health and Rehabilitation Center. Hartwell lived in Savannah before moving to Richmond Hill 35 years ago. He owned and operated Hartwell Cross Acoustical Ceiling. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Hartwell was an avid fisherman and a huge NASCAR fan. He attended every Daytona 500 until his health failed him. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Lewis Cross and Wayne Russell Cross. Hartwell is survived by his daughters, Kim Haywood (Regie) of Richmond Hill and Hayley Miltiades of Pooler; a brother, Larry Cross of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Tyler and Dustin Dearing, Christy and Mitchell Miltiades; and one great-granddaughter, McKinley Miltiades. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, at the Richmond Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Darieng, Mr. Thomas "Tommy" - Richmond Hill  
Richmond Hill Thomas Darieng, 87, died Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Hospice House of Savannah. Tommy was a lifelong resident of Richmond Hill. A graduate of Richmond Hill High School, he spent time as the 2nd Steam Engine Engineer in the Merchant Marines. He sailed around the world twice and was blockaded in England during WWII. This is where he met his queen and wife, Miss Irene. He was very active in his community. Some of his accomplishments are being a member of Richmond Hill First United Methodist Church, instrumental in forming the Richmond Hill Jaycees, instrumental in the incorporation of Richmond Hill, the last living member of the original Richmond Hill City Council, brought natural gas to Richmond Hill, a builder of Richmond Hill State Park, built, owned, and operated Fort McAllister Marina retiring in 1995, instrumental in founding and served as the first president of the DP Club, and instrumental in getting Highway 144 named after his father. He loved to fish, watch NASCAR, and dance. Tommy was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Miss Irene. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen G. and Susan E Darieng of Richmond Hill and their children, Michael, Stephanie, and great grandson, Jacob; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra A. and Louis A. Arnsdroff of Richmond Hill and their daughter, Andrea and William Fawcett and great grandchildren, Sarah, Catherine; and Debra's other daughter, Allison and Chad Bird and great granddaughter, Avia; a son, Chris Darieng; brother, Theron Darieng of Richmond Hill; sister, Betty Tranthom of Sumpter, SC; and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00 Monday, March 23, 2015 at Richmond Hill First United Methodist Church with Reverend Doctor Glenn Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Bryan Neck Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Remembrances can be made to Hospice of Savannah 1352 Eisenhower Dr. Savannah, GA 31405. Cobb, Margaret L. - Richmond Hill  
Margaret L. Cobb, 96, of Richmond Hill, died on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Bryan County Health and Rehabilitation Center. Margaret was born in Johnston City, IL. She had lived in Richmond Hill with her daughter, Janice, for the last six years. She was a member of Johnston Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She is survived by her daughters, Janice Stover of Richmond Hill and Retta Brees of Altamonte Springs, FL; her brother, Harry Ray of Johnston City; six grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. Maurath, Lee - Vass  
Lee Maurath, 76, formerly of Muscatine, Iowa, passed away on March 14, 2015, after a long battle with cancer. He was the son of Janet and Jerry Schreiber, who preceded him in death. Lee was a graduate of Muscatine High School (Class of 1956) and Eastern Iowa Community College. He was an executive with HON Company, where he was employed for over 30 years, before moving to High Point, N.C., in 1989. Lee and his wife, Rosemary, retired to Wood Lake Country Club in Vass, N.C., after Lee's retirement from Masco Home Furnishings in High Point, where he had been employed as vice president of manufacturing and operations. Prior to his illness, he spent a great deal of time in Richmond Hill, supporting his grandchildren in their sports and other activities. In addition to Rosemary, he is survived by his two daughters, Michele Henderson (Toby) Roberts of Richmond Hill and Mindy (Brian) Litten of Hickory, N.C.; his grandchildren, Frank Henderson, Bill (Sara) Henderson and Mary Henderson, all of Richmond Hill, Meghan Litten and friend Jacques Passimo of Houston, Texas, and Blake Litten and friend Mackenzie Mallen of Jacksonville; one great-granddaughter, Aubrey Grace Henderson of Richmond Hill; his nieces, Laura Showers and Julie Newton; his nephews, Jim Newton and Geoff Newton; and his sister, Joyce Alexander of Muscatine and her family. A celebration of Lee's life will be held at Woodlake Golf Club at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 17. In lieu of flowers, and in appreciation of the care and support he received, Lee requested that donations be made to First Health Hospice and Palliative Care, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28387.
