Andrew Jarvis Allen III, 73, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at home.
He was born Aug. 29, 1940, to Virginia and Andrew J. Allen Jr. in Chicago, Ill. He graduated in 1958 from Stonington High School in Stonington, Ill., and enlisted in the U.S. Army
, where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1967 from the University Of Illinois
College Of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry in Chicago until he became director of Dental Services at the Dixon Developmental Center in Dixon, Ill. In 1978, he joined the U.S. Army Dental Corps, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Services Ribbon and the National Defense Medal. He retired from the U.S. Army in February 1994. He enjoyed golf, hunting and target shooting and was an avid reader.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Shawn Allen of Trevor, Wis., and his great-niece, Amber Brand of Springfield, Ill.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Margie; his daughter-in-law, Kimberly Allen and her children, Andrew, Emily and William, all of Trevor, Wis.; his daughters, Cheri (Tom) Koether and their daughter, Catie, of Canton and Cortney (Fred) Brown and their sons, Connor, William, Evan and Lincoln; his brother, David Allen of Savannah; his step-sister, Linda Brand of Springfield, Ill.; and three nieces and two great-nieces, all of Illinois.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Richmond Hill. A private burial with full military honors will follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
