John Morykon, 86, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014.
He was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., on Sept. 27, 1927, to Anna and John Morykon. Mr. Morykon served honorably in the U.S. Navy
as an electrician's mate, and then in 1950 started a career with Westinghouse Electric Corp. as an electric motor winder. Thirty-five years later he retired in 1985 as a regional manager for Westinghouse, responsible for 17 apparatus repair plants along the East Coast. He was a family man, a member of the Catholic church his whole life and an avid golfer. He and his wife, Ethel, resided in Richmond, Va.; Medford, N.J.; Suffolk, Va.; and the past 5 years in Richmond Hill.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Sophie Pucylowski, and a brother, Mike Morykon.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Ethel Morykon; son, John Morykon and wife Gail; daughter, Cheryl Quinn and husband Keith; grandsons, John "Mac" Morykon, Shaun Quinn, Kevin Quinn and Matthew Quinn; granddaughter, Lindsey Hailey and husband Steven; brother, Pete Morakon; and sisters, Helen Nazarek, Katherine Shivell, Ann Marsola and Frances Tersigni.
There will be a private family service at St. Anne Catholic Church.
