Donn Robert Oberlin, 70, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012.
He was born in Fort Wayne, Ind. He was employed as a warehouse manager in Albany and Columbus before accepting a position with the Federal Aviation Administration from which he later retired. He was an avid traveler, licensed ham radio operator (KK4AMD), a retired Bryan County Sheriff's deputy and retired member of the Richmond Hill Volunteer Fire Department. He will be remembered as someone who believed that "life is not about the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away." He was a big supporter of veterans.
He is sadly missed by his wife, Denise Oberlin of Midway; sister, Patricia Hartman of Monroeville, Ind.; children and step-children, Tamara Oberlin Steere (Stephen) of Richmond Hill, Beth Ann Oberlin Ridgway (Jerry) of Kernersville, N.C., and Jason Gaydosh and Laura Gaydosh Combs (Robert), both of Hurst, Texas; and his grandchildren, Emily Steere, Joshua Ridgway and Jordan Ridgway, all of which to whom he was extremely devoted.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Oberlin and Ruth (Simmons) Oberlin.
A memorial service is at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Richmond Hill Funeral Home Cox Chapel.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
