Retired Chief Master Sgt. James R. Ennis Jr. passed away Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Ogeechee Area Hospice surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Ennis was a native and longtime resident of Ellabell and a member of First Baptist Church of Pembroke. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force with more than 31 years of service and was a Bronze Star recipient for service during the Vietnam War. He was also stationed in Bermuda, Germany, Turkey, Japan and twice in Portugal. He retired with more than 10 years of service as the audio-visual technician for many Georgia Southern University sporting events and more than 17 years as the audio-visual technician for the nursing department at GSU. He was an avid football fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Ann Newman Ennis; a son, James Ricky Ennis; a grandson, Matthew Ennis; and his parents, Reginald and Tressie Cowart Ennis.
He is survived by daughter, Vickie Ennis of Statesboro; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rondall and Fern Ennis of Brooklet and Jerry and Diane Ennis of Pembroke; sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Buddy Polk of Pembroke; two granddaughters, Candice Tillman and Rachel Tillman; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dan Bryant and Dr. Brad Butler officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Lower Black Creek Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
