Richmond, Va.
Maria Stack McClanahan, 38, daughter of Thomas and Karen Stack of Waterford Landing, passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, surrounded by friends and family.
Raised in an Air Force family, she was born in Abilene, Texas, and lived in Nebraska, California, Belgium and North Carolina. She attended Page High School in Greensboro, N.C., and graduated from Virginia Tech with degrees in economics and finance before moving to Richmond, Va. She was a certified financial planner and a senior financial adviser at RBC Wealth Management. Her belief in service to others was evident in the many ways she engaged with her community. She was an active parishioner of St. Bridget Catholic Church and a longtime volunteer and fundraiser for the Richmond SPCA's wonderful no-kill facility. She also served as president of the Richmond Kappa Delta Alumnae Chapter. She was a beautiful and graceful woman, who loved her husband and her large and diverse family. She was a planner, an organizer of family events and reunions and a healer of hurts, large and small. She was the glue that held the family all together.
She is survived by her husband, Larry McClanahan of Midlothian, Va.; son, Lucas McClanahan; stepchildren, Alexa, Jaclyn, Julia and Cole; brothers and sisters, Katherine Henley (Glenn) of Victoria, Texas, Jamie Stack (Megan) of Lake Arrowhead, Calif., Annie Stack of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Malinda Hardtke (Dave) of Oakland, Calif., Jennifer Longphre and John Longphre (Kaori), both of Greensboro, N.C., and Elizabeth Elliott (Steve) of Wilmington, N.C.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Nov. 16 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Richmond, Va.
