Mary Glynn Parker, 78, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014.
Mrs. Parker, born Aug. 31, 1935, the granddaughter of J.F. Gregory, was a lifelong resident of Richmond Hill. She was a member of the first graduating class of Richmond Hill that completed 12 years of school. In 1952, she married the love of her life, Willie Authur "Stanfield" Parker. They were inseparable for 59 years until he passed away two years ago. Working by her husband's side, she earned Georgia's Volunteer of the Year award in 2000 for her service on Ossabaw Island. She was a homemaker, a wonderful seamstress and a loving mother and grandmother. Anyone who ever had the privilege of hearing her sing will miss her beautiful voice. She sang in the Corinth Baptist Church choir until a week before her death. Tremors kept her from being able to turn the pages of the hymnals, but she knew all the hymns by heart. If you didn't know this red-headed lady, you don't know what you missed.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick Glynn and Frances Gregory Poole; a much-loved brother-in-law, Bobby Parker; and friend and sister-in-law, Vivian Callahan.
She will be dearly missed by five loving children, Benita Wells, Willie Arthur Parker Jr. (Maria), Sheila Cochran, Barbara Wannamaker (Bob) and Frances Sweeney (Bob); her self-adopted son, Steve Kyles (Verna); nine grandchildren, Lauren Wannamaker, Misty Barbine, Adam Wannamaker, Lindsey Wells, Arthur Wannamaker, Luke Sweeney, Ethan Cochran, Stevie Martin and River Martin; six great-grandchildren, Michael Follette, KatelynnFollette, Rebekah Follette, Brandon Snyder, Aubrey Adams and Alyssa Adams; five sisters, Margaret Aliffi (Otto), Skee Black (John), Lucy Wickstead (Tony), Joan Bacot (Robert) and Becky Poole; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The funeral is at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at Corinth Baptist Church in Richmond Hill with the Rev. Gary Quinney officiating.
Remembrances may be made to Corinth Baptist Church Building Fund, 19584 Highway E. 144, Richmond Hill, GA 31324.
Arrangements are by Richmond Hill Funeral Home.
