Shirley Bazemore Lanier, 82, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013.
Mrs. Lanier was born March 1931 in Sylvania. She was a member of Richmond Hill United Methodist Church. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her TV stories, reading and spending time with her family and friends. She was a charter member of the Richmond Hill Jaycettes 1960. She and her husband of 54 years, Elmer Alton Lanier, loved square dancing with their club, the Bucks & Does. She was an avid bowler and won several awards.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward Lampkin and Lila Bazemore of Sylvania; sister, Geneva B. Reddick of Savannah; brother, David Michael Bazemore of Florida; and son, James C. "Jimmy" Weaver III of Bloomingdale.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Fonda Weaver Parker (Michael) of Richmond Hill; son, Lance Alan Weaver of Garden City; Alton Randall Lanier of Richmond Hill; four grandsons, Jason Michael Parker (Allison) of Atlanta, Scott Nelson Parker (Heather) of Clinton, Miss.; B.T. Blade of Arizona and Joshua James Weaver of Savannah; four granddaughters, Shaina Whiddon of Richmond Hill, Julie Michelle Weaver of Arkansas, Bambi Michelle Lanier of Garden City and Tiffany Lanier Ginn (Keith) of South Carolina; three great-grandsons, Evan Scott Parker and Grant Nelson Parker, both of Mississippi, and Anthony Alton Lanier of Garden City.; three great-granddaughters, Ava Maren Parker of Mississippi, Averil Riley Parker of Atlanta and Chloe Renee Ginn of South Carolina; sisters, Jackie B. Carpenter and Patsy B. Gill, both of Savannah, and Deanna B. Weaver of Sylvania; a brother, Howard Christopher Bazemore of Sylvania; and many friends, in-laws, nieces, nephew, cousins and other relatives.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Hill First Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are friends and nephews: William Sandlin, Tommy Sandlin, Jack F. Gregory III, Arnold Reddick, Edward Reddick and Jack A. Gregory.
Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Wallace Holland of Richmond Hill and his staff for the many years of excellent care they have given to Mrs. Lanier. Thanks also to the staff of St. Joseph's Emergency Room and ICU personnel. Their kindness and professionalism is greatly appreciated and remembered.
